Identity Theft Fraud- Posting Twenty One

I guess anyone can become a victim of identity fraud – even the chairman of a bank. I just received a notice that Mr. Marcus Agius, the chairman of Barclays Bank a large Bank in England, recently became a victim of identity theft. The fraudster is believed to have found personal details of Mr. Agius online and used these to obtain Barclaycard (debit card) through a call center.

He then posed as Mr. Agius and walked into a branch of Barclays and withdrew £10,000.

A Barclaycard spokesman said, "It was down to human error, procedures were not followed fully and we have learned from it."

It is a commitment at Barclays to refund any Barclays customer who becomes the victim of identity theft. They sheepishly handed the £10,000 back to its chairman.

We cannot emphasize enough that you must keep your personal information safe.

Have you been the victim of Identity Theft ? Let’s hear your story. Post to my blog.
