There are many scams that really get me upset but one that preys on people when they are really down is the debt elimination scam. How does this work. Basically, a person who has debt problems can be enticed by a fraudulent debt elimination company. Some of these companies are unscrupulous and even criminal. One typical scam is that for a stiff up front fee (sometimes thousands of dollars) the debt elimination company says they will contact all your debtors or provide you with a certificate that says your debts are eliminated. Victims have stopped paying their debts thinking they have taken care of things. Of course, this is totally bogus and this scam puts a vulnerable person in an even worse financial situation.

If you or someone you know is having debt problems, seek the advice of a licensed debt counsellor. They can help you determine the best course of action to take the right path back to financial health. Don’t fall for a quick fix….you’ll end off in a worse situation.
